The festival was scheduled with lots of movies from a women of color perspectives. Some were shorts, features, docs, even student projects. It was great seeing brothers and sisters in all capacities coming together to honor the work we do. There were also loads of key note panels staffed with illustrious folks working in many levels of the entertainment industry. All the panelists were insightful, encouraging, and available to participants of the festival. It was encouraging to see and hear that people believe that woman of color's voice matter, that they are essential, and must be heard and made visible in the entertainment industry. It was refreshing to be considered important, especially coming from the west coast where it is a continually difficult to break into the industry as an African American woman director, writer, producer. Still, many of the panelists, speakers, and honorees had clearly opened the doors for us. Much respect to them.
